There are several characteristics that are nearly universal among good horse training schools - you just have to know what to look for! First, look for schools that encourage you to visit before you commit yourself (or your money!). If clinics don't want you to see their facilities before you've already signed on the dotted line, there's likely a reason. On your visits to prospective horse training schools pay close attention to the horses you see. Good clinics have healthy and well-cared for horses- without exception. A few other things good schools will have: helmets, clean facilities, plenty of friendly instructors and a variety of places to ride.

Obvious signs of low-quality horse training clinics include sickly, poorly-cared for horses, a sparse staff and a lack of safety gear for riders' use. A few other hallmarks of poor facilities are unkempt stalls and tack rooms, limited riding space and unreasonable prices. Should you notice any of the above characteristics at prospective facilities, it's probably a good idea to keep looking at other schools.
